Dethatching helps pull dead grass, leaves, and any other matter that is resting on your soil up to the surface. We then run a machine over this “thatch” and suck it up and haul it away. The reason for doing this is to allow more nutrients to reach the soil and root system. This can be done along with overseeding for Fescue lawns in early spring. Dethatching can be done in late spring for Bermuda lawns once they start to green up allowing the bermuda to thicken up over the summer. Give us a call for all your dethatching needs.
Overseeding can be done in the spring or fall. Typically results are better in the fall because you don’t have to deal with broadleaf weeds and crabgrass seeds competing with the grass seed. Timing is tricky in the spring. Sometimes the ground temperatures are good enough for long enough before getting too hot and promoting crabgrass. Keep in mind you might have to seed in the fall as well if seeding in the springtime. Sod is another option if you are looking for an instant lawn but costs more than seeding alone.
